Sigma fp Bigger possibilities, smaller size
Sigma has yet again announced a completely new device in the market, the Sigma Fp. This device has been designed with keeping extreme quality and functionality inside a small body. Weighing just less than a pound the camera sure has more to offer than you may originally think. Mimicking some of the professional cinema class cameras, the Sigma Fp is a great way to begin a professional filmmaker career.
Design:
The Sigma Fp is powered by a BSI Bayer CMOS 35mm Full frame sensor which is good for 24.6 MP of resolution. The sensor is back illuminated for better quality. And makes use of the L mount, which is specially optimized for mirrorless cameras. The Sigma Fp has a base sensitivity of ISO 100-25600 but this can be stretch to a max of ISO 6-102400. The camera has a fully electronic shutter to provide high quality images and continuous shot rates up to 18 fps. The purpose of the fully electronic shutter is to completely eliminate any shutter shock and provide crisp results without the tiniest shake. The camera shoots in 14 bit color depth for smoother tonal transitions and better contrast. The autofocusing system on the sigma fp makes use of contrast detection using a 49 points selection mode.
Video:
With video recording capabilities of a max resolution of 4K UHD up to 30 fps the Sigma fp is well up to par with some of its bigger sized mirrorless competition. It can also record full HD 1080p at 120 fps giving you smooth slow motion videos. There is also support for external recording of 12 bit Cinema DNG format. The feature of playing this 12 bit Cinema DNG will also be available via a firmware update. There is support for All Intra recording, this allows for superior image quality in a smaller file size. The camera also possesses features like face detection, focus peaking and eye detection for sharper focus on the subject.
Body:
The entire body of the camera is quite compact and lightweight. The body is made up of aluminum and covered with die cast aluminum. This allows the camera to have better heat dissipation and stay lightweight and easy to handle. A unique characteristic of this camera is the large heat sink. This is designed and inspired by some of the industry class cameras in the market. The heat sink has been place in between the camera body and the LCD. This coupled with the heat dissipating coating allows for effective heat dissipation. The user can choose to continue working for hours without fear of overheating. The structure is completely splash proof and dust resistant with sealing on 42 points on the camera. So if used along with a dust and splash proof lens one can freely use this camera is dust storms and heavy rain without any worry.
